If you’ve seen anything of the media where it concerns immigrants and how they are perceived you might have noticed that a great deal of attention is given to how and where people practice their native religion.  Where the religion is practiced, how often, and for what purpose are all factors that the US media seems to enjoy posting on a continual basis, but the fallout from this is very rare. Why is this you ask?

Simple: You have the right to practice your religion as you see fit in this country. No one has the right persecute you for your beliefs unless those beliefs happen to involve the harm of others in some way or form. Considering that most immigrants aren’t seeking to ruin their chances of having a long and successful stay in America, it’s safe to say that this isn’t much of a problem. The USA has for a long time been built on tolerance and acceptance, despite what history has shown.

What is so strange about religion is that many different religions can agree upon several tenets that seem to pass through each belief system without fail, but the form and technique of each individual religion tend to prevent people from coming together as neighbors.  America is proud to state that it accepts people of different races, religions, creeds, and cultural beliefs.  The country grants the right to any immigrant or natural born citizen to worship as they will and harbor any beliefs they want, so long as no one is harmed in the process. The laws of the land are to protect people from violent acts perpetrated by others, not to govern what type of religion they adhere to.

What is shown on the media is little more than an attempt to stir the pot and highlight any issues that are felt by the minority towards those that are sometimes deemed as foreigners. The truth of the matter is that even those who immigrate to the USA do so out of a desire to change their lives for the better, and wouldn’t think of ruining their chance at a new start. The xenophobic attitudes of a few do not represent the acceptance of the many, which is something that many Americans are proud to state. For a nation built upon immigrants, America is one of the absolutely most tolerant places to live.
