Most people harbor the idea that dessert needs to be taken in moderation, thereby slightly lessening the enjoyment and carefree idea of a sweet treat that is mean to be a bonus at the end of a meal.  While it is wise to regulate the intake of overly fatty and sugar-laden foods, there are desserts that can actually help with your nutritional needs and are quite healthy despite their decadent look.  You’ll still want to moderate how much you eat, but overall such desserts can help with digestion and insulin levels in a way that can promote weight loss and keep a balanced diet while still enjoying the good stuff. One of those desserts is choco-cinnamon pudding, a delectable treat that features a few different benefits considering that cinnamon is one of its key ingredients.

            Cinnamon is beneficial largely because:

1) It can speed up your metabolism.

            Cinnamon can help to control insulin levels and can also alter the metabolic absorption of sugar and carbohydrates.  This allows your body to use its carbohydrate storage more efficiently that those unused carbs do not become excess fat.  This spice also takes longer to metabolize, which means it makes your body work harder, thereby speeding up and expending more energy.  This can allow you to burn more calories and promote greater weight loss.

2) It lowers LDL cholesterol

            LDL cholesterol is typically known as “bad” cholesterol.  Cinnamon can lower this with a single dose per day and can also, as an added benefit, decrease any heart risks.

3) It helps to burn any unwanted belly fat.

            Consuming at least a dose of cinnamon per day can create a huge impact on abdominal fat.  Since abdominal fat is a big problem for so many people this is a decided benefit for a healthy and tasty diet.

4) It can act as an appetite suppressant.

            Consuming cinnamon in your diet can serve to slow down the process of food as it moves into your stomach.  This can help you to feel full for a longer period of time, which means you will not run the risk of overeating as much. Additionally, the sweetness of cinnamon can take away that sweet craving that so many people fall prey to. Instead of reaching for any high calorie, high fat desserts find a recipe that calls for cinnamon to satisfy that craving.

            With that, we move on to our featured recipe for Choco-Cinnamon Pudding, a delightful treat that can satisfy your sweet tooth and provide a healthy after dinner dessert.

Choco-Cinnamon Pudding

*Prep time- 5 minutes

*Cook time- 5 minutes

*Makes 4 servings

Ingredients

¼ cup cornstarch

2 tbsp. sugar

3 tbsp. unsweetened cocoa

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1 oz. dark chocolate (cut into small pieces)

2 ½ cups fat-free milk

            1) Add all ingredients except the milk to the saucepan and boil over medium heat.

            2) Stir in the milk gradually. Keep stirring until mixture reaches a steady boil. Continue to boil for one minute and then continue to stir.

            3) Remove from heat and allow the dessert to cool, or refrigerate before eating.
